CSCS Drift kicked off the track with practice and qualifying sessions to see who would make the cut for the top sixteen. Shannonville is the home track for many drifters and this was clear as soon as they hit the track and filled the park with smoke. This comfortable awareness allowed drivers to push faster for more tire-smoking, sideways-sliding, drift action. After dramatic battles through the top 16 and top 8 the battle for first came down to Nelson Monteiro, our Round 1 winner, against Massimo Narini. Nelson’s JDM soarer looked good out there but couldn’t quite keep up to the pace set by veteran driver Massimo’s old school Volvo.

Over by the main stage the Sonax Tuner Cup Show & Shine competition filled the lot in front of the main stage with show-stopping works of art parked on display. Every avenue of modified cars were represented at Sunday’s event, from a 1971 Datsun 510 with a very clean s15 sr20det swap – who went on to win the ever-popular Judges Favourite Award – to a 1967 Camaro. Making an impression with fans and judges alike was Yuting Gao’s BRZ build, winning both Best BRZ/FRS and Best Stance Static, his supercharged and stanced ride had everyone turning heads. As did Brad Ruiters immaculately built widebody LS-powered Mazda Miata which took home best Mazda. Teknotik’s Emilio C’s pristine engine bay won his EK Best Engine. As the awards rolled around into the early evening, the anticipation built to see who would win Best of Show. Top honours were earned by Rui Paolo’s wild Audi TT build, winning both 1st Place Best of Show, Best Euro and Best Paint.

The CSCS Time Attack was a sold out competition featuring some of Canada’s fastest cars and drivers. In Street Class the fast times were set by the RWD class with Martin Derengowski’s Nextmod s2000 just beating out Ramesh K’s supercharged s2000 by 4 tenths of a second. In Super Street the story was all about the FWD class where Wilson Chan of Carbox Industries ran a time of 57.844 besting out many Unlimited competitors but Chris Boersma wasn’t far behind at all with a time of 58.055! The Unlimited class was ultimately where all of the anticipation built and centered around the Can-Jam Motorsports Black Storm who beat out Mathieu Chenard’s GC8 in the Unlimited AWD class and set a new Track Record with a time of 52.784 blowing the competition away.

All day the anticipation built for CSCS Max Attack where ten of the top built cars lined up with a pace lap then set off in an epic seven-lap wheel to wheel battle for first. James Houghton, the reigning Max Attack leader, experienced some engine difficulties earlier in the day but that didn’t stop him from competing even though he was significantly down on power. Mathieu Chenard’s AWD GC8 fought his way from the back of the pack and after some intense back and forth with James Houghton powered past him down the straight and held on for a first place finish!
