June 29, 2014 – Grand Bend Motorplex
Round Two of the Canadian Sport Compact Series brought thousands of excited enthusiasts to Grand Bend Motorplex for DOD Tech’s CSCS Beach Burnout Powered by Versace Eros.
The CSCS Tuner Cup Show & Shine competition is unlike any other show series, with a variety of classes the Season Opener drew out over one hundred competitors! The always heated Largest Club Award was taken by NextLevel who came out in full force; the stylish Best Body Award went to Matt Gosse’s Teknotik RSX which is actually signed off by Jay’s Racing! The coveted Best of Show 1st place trophy went home with Marco Bifolchi in his show-stopping RB-powered 240sx.
Being the first race of the year, Drag Racers had their hands full trying to deal with the sweltering heat as they shook the bugs out at Grand Bend. However, it was the usual suspects at the top of the time sheets in the Pro Comp class with a slight twist. Taking the #1 qualifying spot with a 9.5 run was Sean Devine in his notorious Red Civic. Also producing 9 sec. runs in qualifying was Paul Bhawan and newcomer to the class Eric Gouveia. As always Test & Tune was only $40.00 (and includes gate admission!) and the drag lines were full of enthusiasts looking to get a timeslip, improve ET’s or simply have fun at the track.
At Round Two, the Time Attack competition had to be cut short due to pouring thunderstorms – but that wasn’t until well into the afternoon and competitors had already set their qualifying times. CSCS will be using the qualifying times as Time Attack times and points will be awarded accordingly. In qualifying however, the top 3 Unlimited cars were all fractions of a second off each other while competing for the record. Each of the top 3 fastest times was set by class winners beginning with defending record holder Mike McGinnis who put down a 52.393 in Unlimited AWD for FTOD. Veteran driver James Houghton ran close behind in his Acura Integra Type R with a time of 52.503 to win UFWD and Riaan Van Vuuren’s Corvette was not far off with a time of 52.989 finishing first in Unlimited RWD.
Over at Grand Bend drifters had their own track for the day enabling drivers to run more practice time in order to familiarize and adapt at a circuit that not many of them run. With entry speeds exceeding 120 km/h fans were in for another smoke filled show as driver’s tandem battled through elimination before the clouds rolled in. It was down to the top 2 drivers of the day when the track made the call to shut down so Dylan Sharpe’s LS3 powered 180sx will face off against the Ls6 in Cody Loughhead’s 240sx at Round 3 to decide a winner in the battle of the v8’s.
